My Past Travel Writing
In 2019, I had the crazy idea of doing what I always wanted to do: living abroad and making money while doing it. So I booked a one way ticket from New York City to Paris and never looked back, traveling around the Mediterranean and Europe, working and writing along the way. During this time I was a contributing writer for the upstart travel website Shut Up and Go, founded by travel personalities Damon Dominique and Jo Franco. For better or worse that chapter of their lives ended, and so did the website, which was shut down after being sold in a private deal. In this section of my portfolio are some of the articles that once graced the pages of Shut Up and Go, saved for posterity in their raw and uncensored versions.
What I Learned from a Year Without Travel
I had always felt that I wasn’t meant for the states. But after being abroad for nearly a year, and then returning, I began to see clearly the why of that inclination, and what a life of travel did for me that American life hadn’t done.
The Perfect Destination Doesn’t Exist
The perfect place will never exist. And while that may seem cynical, hear me out- that’s inevitable, and it’s far from a bad thing.
What I Learned Living Where Everyone Told me to Avoid
Finally, two days before my two weeks ended, I got a response from a random listing I had answered for an au pair position, in the city of Marseille.
Why I’m Doing This
I suppose now is a better time than ever to explain the what, the how, and more importantly, the why I’m doing what I’m doing in the first place.
